In June 2018 we launched the Taking Teaching Further (TTF) programme, a national initiative to attract experienced industry professionals with expert technical knowledge and skills to work in Further Education. This Department for Education- funded initiative is being managed on its behalf by the Education and Training Foundation.
Congratulations to the successful colleges and providers who applied to take part in Round 1 of the programme, in areas ranging from Cumbria and Northumberland, to Kent and Norwich, who will aim to recruit the country’s first Taking Teaching Further teachers from specific sectors and encourage them to retrain to work in those institutions. This is Strand 1 of the programme.
Alongside the support to train new teachers through Strand 2, 20 innovative projects are also being funded to explore how industry and the further education sector can work together to make sure students gain the knowledge and skills businesses really need.
The programme is initially running for two years to pilot how to effectively encourage and support experienced industry professionals from key sectors into full or part time FE teaching roles. The programme will also support the ongoing exchange between FE providers and industry so that students can gain the knowledge and skills that employers need.
Further information is available on the Taking Teaching Further page.
